Biography
David Fairchild – Photographer & Storyteller
David Fairchild is a photographer with the eye of a director and the soul of a storyteller. Trained at New York’s esteemed Neighborhood Playhouse, David began his career in the world of theater, where he learned to translate emotion, light, and timing into unforgettable moments. That sensibility soon carried into his photography, where his portraits and landscapes reveal not just what is seen, but what is felt.
After moving to Los Angeles in 1976, David opened a Hollywood studio that quickly became known for more than just headshots—it became a place where actors, artists, and dreamers saw themselves come alive on film. His gift for capturing the spark behind the eyes led to assignments from Baker Communications and Women’s Wear Daily (W), where he photographed celebrities including Elizabeth Taylor, John Forsythe, Burt Bacharach, Dionne Warwick, Sally Field, and many more. Each image bore his signature style: a touch of elegance, a sense of drama, and an intimacy that invited viewers into the subject’s world.
Beyond the glamour, David’s lens has always been drawn to stories of resilience and decline—scenes where beauty lingers, even as time erodes. The haunting desolation of the Salton Sea inspired Tarbox and Broken Smile, series that juxtapose decay with memory, turning abandoned marinas and weathered relics into testaments of forgotten grandeur. His collection Les Chiens de Paris captures the charm of everyday life on the streets of Paris, transforming simple walks with beloved dogs into cinematic vignettes of connection and joy.
From a sun-bleached plantation house in Hawaii to the affectionate glance between a Parisian elder and her faithful canine, David’s work invites viewers to pause, reflect, and imagine the deeper story beyond the frame. Each photograph is both documentation and theater—an evocative stage where memory, mystery, and beauty coexist.
For collectors, David Fairchild offers more than images. He offers windows into worlds where drama meets tenderness, and where every photograph resonates with the timeless power of story.
